massa marittima

Massa Marittima is considered to be the medieval pearl of the Maremma area.

Maremma is a vast geographical area in the southwest part of Tuscany renowned for its coast and beaches, rugged hills, breathtaking natural scenery, and the buttero or Tuscan cowboy.

Massa Marittima is the main residential center of the Colline Metallifere (literally, metal-bearing hills) surrounded by an unspoilt landscape of incomparable beauty.

During the tour of the small town with your local guide, you will discover important medieval monuments such as Palazzo del Podestà, Palazzo Comunale (Town Hall), Fonti dell’Abbondanza, Torre del Candeliere (Tower), and the Cathedral of San Cerbone, considered to be one of the most beautiful and important religious buildings of the medieval period in Tuscany.
In the interior, among the works of art to be admired, are the Maestà attributed to Duccio di Buoninsegna (1316) and the Ark (casket) of San Cerbone by Goro di Gregorio (1324).
