When you visit Siena, it is like taking a step back in time to the 13th century. The red colored brick city is the embodiment of the Middle Ages and simply unforgettable. You can almost still hear shopkeepers calling out to customers, the sound of horses’ hooves, and the rustle of women’s gowns.

Piazza del Campo is, perhaps, the most famous square in the world, thanks to the oldest (and quickest) horse race, known as the Palio, which takes place here twice yearly. It is an event which no authentic Sienese would ever miss! This age-old race is still, today, a very heated competition between the districts or contradas of the city.

Outside Siena, there is a splendid landscape of gentle undulating hills covered with vines and olive trees, typical of how people envision Tuscany. It is a fruitful land where one of the most famous wines, Chianti, is produced.

In the south part of the province, Val d’Orcia, it is possible to visit some small towns renowned not only from an artistic point of view but also for their food and wine: Montalcino, Pienza, San Quirico d’Orcia, and Montepulciano. A day in each of these charming hamlets would not be enough!

And what to say of San Gimignano? Its towers have been talked about for centuries! It is interesting to see what stories they have to tell still today!
